Why Sea Asparagus?

Besides that it is delicious and naturally salty, sea asparagus is packed with vitamins A, B6, B9, C, D and E. Plus its loaded with dietary fiber, amino acids, potassium, magnesium, calcium and TMG, a powerful antioxidant that promotes heart health.

Why Okinawa Sweet Potato?

Okinawan sweet potato has been in the Hawaiian diet for many years, its crops flourishing in the rich volcanic soil. These potatoes, actually stemming from the morning glory family are extremely high in antioxidants, and a good source for vitamins A, C and B6, copper, fiber, potassium and iron. While also known to improve blood sugar regulation, and have antibacterial and antifungal properties.

Why Smoking Boar and Coconut?

This may be my number one question I get asked. And the name doesn’t come from anywhere special but from the food itself. Hawaii has always been required to live off its resources….. I mean its an island. And two things that have always been available in plenty and dominate the Hawaiian menu are pork and coconut. We do not use wild boar because of health inspection requirements, and most of our coconut options are offered on the sweet side of our menu. But the two make a great pair, and the name just came together, creating its legacy.

Hawaiian style Since 2020

The Smoking Boar and the Coconut is a small family owned restaurant combining the dreams of an industry hustler and age old family recipes. Our plates are not fancy, they are packed with flavor and memories of gathering around the table with our ohana and talking story. We wanted to create a place where local families can come together or bump into each other and reminisce about the good ol days.

Hawaii is known for its Aloha, generosity and being unlike any other place in the world, we hope you can step into our hale, always feel welcome, and into an experience that demonstrates these values. we believe it is our kuleana to bring this community together, and keep our ancestors alive, not only through your stories but through our recipes.

This building we gather in was once the first Toyota dealership on the island, Waialua Soda Co., CrossFit gym….. and we hope to create a legacy to follow. Whether you stop in for a quick take out or are here to pass the hours, we want you to feel as though you are visiting old friends.

We also believe that Hawaii is unique in a way that it can prosper through its own elements, encouraging us to stay as local as possible. We source our fish from local Haleiwa fisherman, our micro greens and edible flowers are grown in Mililani at Mari’s Gardens, our Sea Asparagus and Ogo is from Olakai and our Okinawa sweet potato both in Kahuku, our lettuce is grown right here on the north shore and our luau leaf comes from Kailua. We hope that in buying from these local businesses, we not only get the best product possible, but also that we can be a part of a sustainable community.

Mahalo for sharing our dream and letting us be a part of your community
